We are excited to officially announce that The Encinitas Union School District, Healthy Day Partners, & Paint Encinitas have partnered up and are currently taking art submissions for an electrical box at the brand-new EUSD Farm Lab!
The Encinitas Union School District’s ten-acre farm site located at 441 Quail Gardens Drive in Encinitas is in the process of becoming the home to interdisciplinary learning experiences that seamlessly integrate into the District’s comprehensive Health & Wellness Program, aimed at educating the whole child.
The core intent of Farm Lab is to provide students with educational experiences that demonstrate the interconnectedness of nutrition, agriculture, and ecology. Through hands-on lessons in the field and in food and science labs, students will develop a rich understanding of the connection between our actions and our health and the economy and environment. Key partnerships and community engagement will further enrich the program.
The EUSD Farm Lab will be comprised of two classrooms, a science lab, a nutritional lab, a dedicated student growing area, composting area and approximately seven acres of surrounding farming space to be used for growing produce the school district’s school lunch program. The perimeter of the farm will be lined with edible plants and fruit trees as part of a larger collaboration with the farm’s immediate neighbors, bringing edible landscaping to the area. Lessons for visiting students will involve all aspects of the Farm Lab as well as include visits to the neighboring San Diego Botanic Garden and Heritage Museum.
- Paint a mural on an 86” x 128” x 45” electrical utility box at the entrance to the campus.
